The University of Wisconsin-Madison offers you an exciting and vibrant campus community. In addition to coursework, VISP participants are encouraged to explore extracurricular opportunities to help meet other students, stay healthy so you can make the most of your experience, and learn about life as a Badger.
University Recreation & Wellbeing offers VISP students the opportunity to use workout facilities, swim, join sports clubs, or even take a noncredit group fitness course such as Zumba or Cardio.
All fee-paying students have access to University Health Services (UHS), a student health clinic located on campus. Health professionals at UHS offer routine health care, mental health counseling and psychiatry, personal wellness, and more. Most of the services provided by UHS are free. The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), a plan required by the university for visa holders, provides comprehensive health coverage for medical issues, mental health counseling, and prescriptions beyond the services provided by UHS.
Depending on your visa status you may be able to work in an on-campus job. Check the ISS Employment website for more information and search for on-campus jobs on the Student Job Center.
Connect with other Badgers while doing something good for the Madison community. The Morgridge Center for Public Service helps connect VISP students with volunteering opportunities in the community.
UW-Madison has hundreds of Student Organizations that you can join while studying here. A searchable database of groups is available on the Center for Leadership & Involvement website. Popular organizations with VISP students include Building Relationships in Diverse Global Environments (BRIDGE), Hoofers, and club sports.
